What Is The HeMEP Policy?

The HeMEP policy is insurance for the cost of the emergency helicopter evacuation of an injured employee from a remote location when another insurer might not meet that cost.

If you have an employee working remotely who suffers an accident, injury, or condition that requires immediate transportation to a medical facility, in partnership with HeloEvac, the HeMEP policy will:

1 number circle

provide a 24/7 manned call center to receive your emergency call; and

2 number circle

arrange emergency helicopter transportation authorized by a licensed medical professional on-hand to provide preliminary advice and assistance.

How Does The HeMEP Policy Work?

Once the emergency has subsided you can expect to receive a substantial invoice for the cost of the helicopter transportation. Typically, it is sent to the party that requested the service. That might not always be the employer of the injured worker.

There might be a delay while establishing who should take responsibility for the invoice, and a further delay while the correct insurer is identified to determine where the invoice should be sent.

Thereafter, if it is determined that there is no coverage for the helicopter invoice, you are responsible for the sizeable uninsured exposure, and a helicopter transportation company threatening litigation to be paid.

HeloEvac will take care of the invoice directly, by

1.

paying the helicopter invoice within 30 days,

2.

then submitting the claim to the appropriate insurance carrier for reimbursement. If the flight is for a work-related injury/illness HeloEvac will submit the claim with Workers’ Comp. If the flight is for a non-work-related injury or illness, HeloEvac will file the claim with Blu Cypress Solutions. (subject to policy terms and conditions, and available policy limits)

Everyone Wins!

The helicopter transportation provider is paid in a timely manner and is not forced to chase payment.

Your established insurer benefits from reduced costs due to preferential rates pre-agreed between HeloEvac and the helicopter transportation provider.

You do not have an uninsured exposure should your established insurer not cover the cost.
